Squirrles, writer's block and ADD

Squirrel Powers activate! Form of Shiny Object. Shape of the Letter A...A-Team.

Not many people will get the Wonder Twin's reference here will they? Yeah. And I'm not referring to that team in Minnesota either.

I've been trying all day to think about what to write.

Okay, that's a bit wrong, not really all day. Kinda some of the day maybe. Part of the day. Okay, I've been thinking about it off and on an on and off.

Was going to talk about boxing germs this morning. Well, this morning I was thinking about boxing some germs. Let me try that again. I was thinking this morning about writing about boxing some germs which would make no sense unless you were with me during my workout this morning. And that couldn't happen because I don't think all of the readers in Russia and Germany could fit into my garage. Not saying y'all are big. I mean, I'm of northern European decent and all. Well, Scotch-Irish (or is that a drink) or Scottish and Irish and German and English. Pretty much at war with myself really.

Let me try this again shall I?

I've been distracted all day. Well, not all day. The day itself started out pretty nice. Woke up early. And went a few rounds with my punching bag. I also realize I need to put weights on my heavy bag stand because I almost knocked it over this morning. I put in a good set of push ups and sit ups this morning as well.

Why am I saying all of this? When we get busy, get blocked have issues focusing, you gotta find something to get it all out. This past summer I've hardly hit the gym and it's not good. Though weight watchers has been pretty good in the losing weight part, I also want to get back to gaining muscle. But I'm starting with some fun cardio at home first because I pretty much can't get to the gym on time right now.

Picked up a jump rope this afternoon too. Not them weird weak plasticky things that make me think I should start singing "Cinderella dressed in yella." But one that's white, thick and has handles, like Rocky's. Inspired by Mr. Balboa, I'm going to start skipping rope here soon too. Not sure about practicing at a meat locker though any time soon.

This post has almost no point to it whatsoever save for the fact that even when I have writer's block and things are looking frazzled...trying hard to find something that will help me with my routine and exercising. I'll let you know how it turns out...hey! Look! A Squirrel!

blogging block

Since Tuesday, Ive been wracking my brains on what to write about. Come Wednesday, my thoughts are all tapped out. I've been arguing back and forth with myself about just what to write about and nothing at all I could think of seemed to work.

This is kinda how it happened over the last few days

Me: What am I supposed to write about?

Other Me: Write what you know.

M: What's that supposed to mean? "Write what you know." C'mon, what cliche did you grab that from?

OM: Seriously, you have to be mean? I'm trying to help. It's your blog.

M: What about Tinkerbell's Great Fairy Rescue?

OM: Seriously? Why?

M: Because I just saw it with my two year-old daughter recently. Well, I saw most of it. I'm never finishing that thing. Always starting it but never actually finish watching it. I mean, how do they rescue Vidia from Lizzy's father who was on his way to the museum to expose fairies to the world?

OM: You are kidding right? ...how many times have you seen that movie anyway?

M: Well, I just saw it and it's on my mind

OM: But Tinkerbell? Really?

M: Well, she's independent, self sufficient and a strong female character for my daughter.

OM: We'll put a pin in that one and place it on the back burner. What else ya got?

M: I'm doing a guest post on The Network about being a Geek in the Pew. I could do that.

OM: But then you're double dipping. You could, but you gotta write it first. And anyway, this isn't Spiritual Sci-Fi Friday, it's a Wednesday. You don't do Serious Wednesdays like Jon Acuff does. You're already borrowing the idea of doing an inner dialogue from him for this post and then you'll take his Serious Wednesday? Not cool. That's just copying...so not cool.

M: Good point. Good point.

OM: You started this blog to talk about health. What about health can you talk about?

M: Not much, save that over the last week and a half I had a ton of birthday cake?

OM: yeah, but it was such good cake.

M: Boy was it. Of course, might as well just stapled it to my thighs...I have my mother's thighs, I'll just have to live with it.

OM: We're getting sidetracked.

M: You started it.

OM: No, you did. You asked the question. Wait. Which me asked what question again? I'm confused.

M: Maybe I should just write about Tinkerbell's Great Fairy Rescue.

OM: Why? Do you want to have a Girly Thursday or something?

M: I want to write something.

OM: You don't' just write down random thoughts that come through your head. This is a blog. There has to be some order.

M: Dude, chill...I just called myself dude, didn't I?

OM: Yeah..I'm weireded out too.

M: I have a sermon to work on. I'll post a blog tomorrow for Spiritual Sci-Fi Friday.

OM: On what?

M: I'm thinking...this isn't going to go well, is it?

Anybody else ever have days like this?

Writer's Block--a Lenten Meditation?

Yes, I didn't put up a Monday blog. No, I wasn't participating in a digital fast for Lent. Even if I did, I think it might be against Matthew 6:16-18 to blog about it anyway. The story? I've had writer's block. Yep. Not just writer's block but weight lifting block. Heck, I've had exercise in general block!

With writer's block, I just can't seem to get the words out to blog about something important that is related to be a Spiritual Musclehead. I couldn't think about something that was highly spiritual. I couldn't think of something that was exercise related (mainly because I haven't gone to the gym in a a couple of days to get more material)and I was struggling to think of something dealing with relationships and the emotional side of things. ERG!!

And it's this not knowing what to say that bugs me. I need to know what to say each week. More than that, Sunday comes twice a week for me. As I was thinking about this, I thought of what happened the night Jesus was betrayed. We read in Mark 14 that Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane with Peter, James and John to pray. Jesus needed to unload what was on his soul in prayer. He wanted his three closest friends with him. And what'd these three friends do? They fell asleep. Three times Jesus asked them to stay awake and three times they fell asleep.

I always connect with what Jesus tells them in v40

"When [Jesus]came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him." Mark 14:40

They were blocked. Here they are, with Jesus, having the experience that so many people today wish that they had. It'd be like throwing the football with Joe Montana, playing basketball with Michale Jordan or golfing with Arnold Palmer or driving NASCAR with what's-his-face (I don't follow NASCAR, sorry). And they fell asleep. More than that, they tried to look away (Jesus could tell. He's the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity...that and their eyes were heavy). And they didn't know what to say.

Right now, I don't know what to say. My mind won't move forward sometimes on this. It's blocked. During this season looking forward to Easter, I just don't know what to say right now.

Have you ever had that?
